Braces

Braces are appliances that are attached to the teeth to help straighten them and guide them to their ideal positions. This is accomplished by applying a gentle yet continuous force to each tooth that needs to be moved. Braces should be placed and monitored by trained orthodontic specialists for the best results.

During your orthodontic treatment, your braces will be adjusted at regular intervals in order to gradually move your teeth to their desired spots. Treatment duration is dependent on different factors such as case complexity and patient cooperation, but the average length of orthodontic treatment is around 24 months.

Cinema Orthodontics offers several different types of braces for our patients to choose from. Each bracket has different benefits that we explain in detail at our consultation/treatment planning appointment.

Types of Braces

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are a system of brackets and wires that attach to each tooth individually and work together to straighten your teeth over time. Brackets are cemented to each tooth, and the archwire is attached to them with ties that come in a variety of colors. At your visits, the wires are either changed or adjusted to continue moving the teeth as desired. These braces are made of high-quality stainless steel and are very strong and durable.

Clear Braces

“Clear” braces are tooth-colored brackets that are less noticeable than traditional metal braces. These are also known as translucent braces and are made of a material called polycrystalline alumina. They are used in conjunction with wires in the same manner as their metal counterparts.

Self-ligating Braces

Self-ligating braces are also used with wires just like traditional braces, but they differ in the manner in which the wire is attached to the bracket. Unlike traditional braces where the wire is secured with a colored tie, self-ligating braces have a door that secures the wire in place without the use of colored ties. The main benefit of this type of bracket is that it reduces friction as the teeth move along the wire, allowing the teeth to move faster. These self-ligating braces can be either in the metal or clear forms described above.
